Contains information pertaining to the following military units and organizations: 42nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment, Confederate Naval Academy, C.S.S. Savannah, C.S.S. Water Witch. General description of the collection: The Hubbard Taylor Minor papers include diaries (May 21,1863-June 5, 1865) and correspondence (Oct. 10, 1862-Apr. 24, 1865). One diary relates to his service with Maxey's Brigade in the Vicksburg and Jackson campaigns, May-July 1863. The other two diaries concern his study at the Confederate Naval Academy (Aug-Dec. 1863 and Dec. 1864-Apr. 1865) plus his intervening tour at Savannah with the Savannah Squadron but also with the heavy artillery during the siege of Savannah. During the flight from Richmond, he was a refugee fleeing on his own through the Carolinas. Materials also refer to his brother Henry (an officer of the 3rd Confederate Engineer Regiment) and his uncles, Daniel C. Govan and William A. Quarles. Two accounts are included of the operations of Quarles' Brigade in the Atlanta campaign particularly in the battles of Dallas, Kennesaw Mountain, and Ezra Church as well as an account of the C.S.S. Albermarle. Minor's account of his participation in the capture of the U.S.S. Water Witch below Savannah on June 2, 1864, is also included. Postwar correspondence concerns a potential duel between Minor and John S. Wise (Mar. 19, 1866).
